Health Benefits of Himalayan Salt Lamps

In our very first super blog post, we're going to take a look at these Himalayan Salt Lamps that everyone's been going nuts over.

I grabbed my first one from Amazon shortly after moving cross country at the beginning of 2015. I was working on the floor of my new "office" and needed a light. When I saw how awesome looking these things were, I fell in love and bought one. It's been my constant companion through many long nights, it's warm glow gently reminding me that I have to demand longer deadlines.

When I went back to find more of these things, I noticed that there was a much larger selection than before, many of which were now talking about the health benefits of Himalayan salt lamps. I thought that was a little strange, I mean, it's a lightbulb inside of a rock. How healthy can that be? But, as it would turn out, it's true. According to crazy people on the internet and these guys over at WebMD, these little lamps release negatively charged ions...

I'll just let the sink in for a minute...

These negatively charged ions, or NCIs as I like to call them, are produced after thunderstorms, where waves crash over rocks, on high mountains, and a bunch of other places, places that I generally consider peaceful. Research says that these little ion guys can help improve your mood, help you maintain focused and alert, and even claim to help with allergies.

Do you feel peaceful?
Now, I'm not a scientist, I build websites and write witty blog posts, but I do pride myself on being observant. One of the things that I have observed, and the reason that I'm writing this thing in the first place, is that I actually do feel and work better after having this lamp on for a while. This past week I completed a large project for a client. I spent two weeks at 12-14 hours a day in front of my computer (remember when I said that I needed to get longer deadlines?). There were days that were just awful. I wanted to die. It was snowing outside, I was tired, I was sore, and it didn't even matter that I was making a ton of money by completing the project, I was miserable. Then, there were days where I was hyper productive - writing nearly double what I normally turn out and my content was of impeccable quality. The difference? My lamp was turned on. I left my windows open (even though it was snowing outside... don't tell my wife) during the day, and moved my plants a little closer to where I sit. All things that, supposedly, generate more of those little ion guys.

I am going to buy a few more of them for my office. I especially want these ones since they're the same as the one that I have now.

So, I ask you, dear reader, what do you do to make your office more livable? If you've ever used one of these lamps before, I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks for reading!
